French Impressions

About the Program:

An evening devoted to the distinctive elegance, colour and intimacy of French music. Fauré’s Dolly Suite captures a world of childhood, tenderness and imagination, while a selection of French songs brings poetry directly into the musical landscape. The programme concludes with Faur’és Piano Quartet in C minor, whose rich harmonic language and emotional subtlety reveal the composer at his most expressive. From miniature to song to chamber masterpiece, the evening celebrates the extraordinary French tradition of transforming the everyday into something luminous and poetic.

The Parnassos Literary Society

A Beacon of cultural prestige in Athens

The Parnassos Literary Society Mansion was established in 1865 and has since been one of the most prestigious venues for concerts, lectures and various cultural events. Today, the mansion stands as a preserved historic building, officially designated as a cultural monument. The Central Hall is renowned for its exceptional acoustics and it was electrified immediately after the Hellenic Parliament, making it one of the earliest buildings in Greece to receive electric lighting. Over the years, distinguished figures such as Pierre de Coubertin, Arthur Evans, Georges Clemenceau, Winston Churchill, and Eleftherios Venizelos have delivered speeches from its esteemed stage.

Named after the mountain dedicated to Apollon and the Muses, Parnassos Literary Society — one of the oldest cultural institutions in Greece —established this mansion not merely as a venue, but as a sanctuary for the arts, where music, literature, and scholarship converge in harmony.

To attend an event at the Parnassos Literary Society Mansion is to partake in a tradition of refinement, intellect, and artistic brilliance—a truly essential experience for any connoisseur of the arts in Athens.

Join us in the heart of Athens for a transformative celebration of classical music, culture, and creativity.
